Geyikbayırı

Village north-northeast of Çitdibi and west of Antalya, best known for its excellent sport climbing opportunities.

Nitty-Gritty

Orientation

This is the eastern endpoint of the Lycian Way. It’s a short dolmuş ride from Antalya.

Trail-Related

The official eastern endpoint for the Lycian Way is outside of Josito Camping, though it used to be slightly further to the north at the main road (there’s still trailhead signage at the main road, too, for some reason…).

Our GPS tracks continue to the main road though we have a point-of-interest marking the trailhead outside of Josito Camping as well.

Transport

Fairly frequent dolmuş service is available to / from Antalya.

Payment is via a stored-value card that you tap on a sensor (no cash). If you don’t have a card and are heading towards Antalya the driver will normally let you board and will stop closer to the city for you to purchase a card from a machine, and you can pay then.

Highlights

Geyikbayırı is a major rock-climbing destination in the region. There are climbs of varying difficulty and novices can get training.

Even if you don’t want to climb yourself, it can be a lot of fun watching others doing things you have too much good sense to do yourself! 😂😂😂

Accommodations

The accommodation options are generally oriented to rock-climbers, not hikers, though you’ll still be welcomed.

Josito Camping is a popular option though there are several similar operations in the area.

Amenities

Most amenities in close proximity to the Lycian Way’s path are at the accommodations.

Note, though, that almost everything either shuts down or has minimal service during ‘climbing hours’ – even the staff all prefer to spend their time on the cliffs, not serving drinks!
