Main Path
Kabak – Kabak Beach
ID:
14

Main path connecting the ‘upper’ village of Kabak, located partway up the hillside, with the popular beach area (which is where you’ll find most of the accommodation and F & B options, not surprisingly).

Essentials

Kabak (village)
Kabak Beach (below main village area of Kabak)
Short section with the endpoints being roughly N–S but the path itself having a wide arc to the E.
Steep section with average slope of about 18% with portions approaching 30%.
Follows mostly good-quality paths making this section not as difficult as its slope would otherwise suggest.
Way-finding is moderate. There’s a couple of mildly confusing junctions but generally you won’t have any problem.

Handy Things to Know

The following notes are gathered from our own experiences and from feedback sent to us by other hikers. Let us know how we can improve these notes – and thanks!

Route Planning

  • If you are heading towards Alınca and have no interest in Kabak Beach (say what???), you can go directly from Kabak to Alınca following along the ridge, bypassing Kabak Beach entirely. That reduces the climb to Alınca somewhat though there is still plenty of climbing. We find the ascent from the beach to be nicer and recommend it over the ridge path.

Accommodations

  • For a small area, there are a lot of accommodation options at both ends of the section and along the hillside. Options range from upscale to typical pensions to hammocks to campgrounds – something for everyone.
  • Prices tend to be slightly inflated here compared with much of the Lycian Way due its popularity as a tourist destination.

Camping

  • Wild camping isn’t permitted on the beach or in the woodlands around / above it (though many do so anyway).
  • Commercial campsites and bungalows are available all over the hillside.

Amenities

  • There’s a small market in Kabak’s upper village and a wide selection of restaurants available (most associated with the various accommodation options, though food service is typically open to anyone, not just guests).

Transport

  • Dolmuş service is available from the upper village but not from the beach.

Alternative approach linking the ‘upper’ village of Kabak with the village of Alınca following a ridge (sometimes by steep edges).   Beautiful but challenging path with a lot of ascending and descending over rugged terrain. It is shorter and a bit easier than the main variant (which goes via Kabak Beach).

How You Can Help

Trail research is never actually done. Here’s some of what we’re looking for:
✅   More photos! Ideally with geo-location information in the metadata. In addition to using some photos on Trekopedia, we add them to our internal reference database which significantly helps us with trail research. The more photos, the better! If you are willing to share your collection with us, we’d be incredibly grateful. Let us know and we’ll arrange a transfer.

✅   Points of interest. Help us identify (and geo-locate) accommodations, attractions, restaurants, markets, trail waypoints, confusing or problematic junctions, difficult or hazardous places, water sources, and so on.

✅   Tips & recommendations. Share your thoughts with other hikers.
In addition to the above, please see this article for information on more general ways you can help. Thanks!
